When sweating starts to affect your comfort

Excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis, has nothing to do with how often you shower or what kind of antiperspirant you use. With hyperhidrosis, the sweat glands are more active than the body actually needs. Sweating can occur even without heat, exercise, or stress—it simply happens when you least want it to.

Wet spots on your clothes right before an important meeting. Palms that get sweaty when you shake hands. Feet that make wearing shoes uncomfortable. Or sweat on your forehead that appears even when you’re not exerting yourself at all.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Excessive sweating can affect your self-confidence, comfort, and everyday situations. And that’s exactly why it makes sense to seek professional help.

At BeautyLab, we use botulinum toxin, which acts locally, directly in the area of excessive sweating. It temporarily reduces the activity of the sweat glands where sweating bothers you the most, without causing the sweating to automatically shift to another area.

When properly indicated and administered, it is a safe and targeted treatment that helps bring more confidence, comfort, and freedom to everyday life.

How Botulinum Toxin Helps with Excessive Sweating

Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that activate the sweat glands in the treated area. This means that the sweat glands are not removed or damaged, and the body does not automatically start producing more sweat elsewhere.

The treatment is targeted. It is applied directly to the areas where sweating is most pronounced—most commonly the underarms, palms, soles of the feet, or forehead. This reduces the activity of the sweat glands precisely where sweating bothers you the most.

The first changes usually appear within a few days. The full effect develops within about 2 weeks and typically lasts 6–9 months. After this period, the treatment can be repeated. With regular repeat treatments, the effect may last longer for some clients.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions About the Treatment of Excessive Sweating

The treatment in the underarm area is usually very well tolerated, and most clients describe it as feeling like just a few small pricks. The palms and soles of the feet are more sensitive areas, so we use an anesthetic cream or cooling if necessary to make the treatment more comfortable.

The first reduction in sweating usually occurs within 3–7 days after treatment. The full effect develops within approximately 2 weeks.

The effects usually last 6–9 months. After this period, the treatment can be repeated. With regular repeat treatments, the effects may last longer for some clients.

Yes, when properly indicated and administered, it is a safe treatment. Botulinum toxin acts locally in the treated area and temporarily reduces the activity of the sweat glands. The sweat glands are not damaged, and the body does not automatically start producing more sweat elsewhere.

No. The use of botulinum toxin to treat sweating does not mean that sweating will “shift” to another part of the body. The treatment specifically reduces the activity of sweat glands in a particular area, such as the underarms, palms, or soles of the feet.

Yes. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and does not require a recovery period. You can resume your normal daily activities immediately after the procedure. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, saunas, and overheating the treated area for the first 24 hours.

Botulinum toxin injections provide a temporary solution for excessive sweating. The effects typically last 6–9 months, after which the treatment can be repeated. More permanent solutions exist, but they tend to be more invasive, which is why botulinum toxin is a comfortable and safe option for many clients.
